Best Way to Drink Lobos 1707 Tequila
"Lobos 1707 is remarkably smooth and devoid of any harshness, making it an excellent choice for sipping neat or on the rocks. The absence of any biting notes allows for an enjoyable experience, even when served chilled over ice.", suggests Tequila expert Neil Coleman.
However, due to its pronounced sweetness, this Tequila may not be the best candidate for cocktails, as its sugary profile can overpower other flavors in mixed drinks.

On the Rocks

Lobos 1707 is suitable for drinking on the rocks, but I recommend using large ice cubes to minimize dilution.
At a modest 80-proof (40% ABV), excessive water from melting ice can dull the flavors, resulting in a less vibrant drinking experience.
Taking Shots
Lobos is smooth and sweet with no burn on the way down making a good Tequila shooter.
A clean, traditional Tequila glass or Caballito is perfect for enjoying a shot, delivering the full aroma and flavor.
Glass Selection
A traditional whiskey rocks glass is an excellent choice for drinking Lobos 1707, primarily because its wide brim allows the Tequila's aromas to waft freely, enhancing the sensory experience.
Additionally, the glass's stout build provides ample room for ice, ensuring your Lobos remain chilled without becoming overly diluted.
Its straightforward design complements the straightforward character of Lobos, making the whiskey rocks glass a fitting vessel for savoring this tequila.
Flavor Profile
When you first smell Lobos 1707, you'll notice a strong smell of sweet vanilla and something like cake batter, with a light touch of agave in the background.
Tasting it, you'll get a sweetness that might remind you of artificial sweeteners, followed by soft hints of vanilla and a mild agave flavor.
The aftertaste doesn't stick around for long, and it mainly tastes like sweet vanilla.
Lobos 1707 doesn't have a strong kick to it, which makes its very sweet taste slide down easily.
Cocktails

Lobos is not a Tequila I recommend for making cocktails as its sweet notes do not mix well with other ingredients.
I suggest using cheaper Tequilas with a more traditional flavor profile to make cocktails.
However, if you want to use it in your next mixed drink here are some ideas for you to explore:
Spicy Cucumber Margarita:
- 2 oz Lobos 1707 Tequila
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.5 oz agave syrup
- 2 slices of cucumber
- 1 slice of jalapeño (more if you like it spicier)
- Tajín or chili powder for rimming
Instructions: Rim a glass with Tajín or chili powder. Muddle cucumber and jalapeño in a shaker. Add tequila, lime juice, agave syrup, and ice. Shake well and strain into the glass. Garnish with a cucumber ribbon.
Smoked Sage Old Fashioned:
- 2 oz Tequila
- 0.5 oz maple syrup
- 2 dashes of chocolate bitters
- Fresh sage leaves
- A pinch of smoked salt
Instructions: Lightly muddle sage leaves with maple syrup and bitters in a glass. Add Tequila, a pinch of smoked salt, and ice. Stir gently and garnish with a sage leaf and a twist of orange peel.
Hibiscus Paloma:
- 2 oz Lobos 1707 Tequila
- 4 oz hibiscus tea (chilled)
- 0.5 oz lime juice
- 0.5 oz agave syrup
- Edible flowers for garnish
Instructions: Combine Tequila, hibiscus tea, lime juice, and agave syrup in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with edible flowers for a visually stunning and unique twist on the classic Paloma.
Food Pairings

Lobos 1707 Tequila, with its sweet and smooth profile, can be a delightful complement to various sweet foods. Here are some pairings that can enhance your tasting experience:
- Chocolate Tres Leches Cake:
- The creamy, milky layers of a Tres Leches Cake can be beautifully balanced by the smoothness of Lobos 1707. The chocolate adds a depth that resonates well with the Tequila’s vanilla notes.
- Cinnamon Churros with Chocolate Sauce:
- The warm spices of cinnamon and the richness of chocolate sauce create a playful contrast with the sweet and smooth notes of the tequila.
- Orange Flan:
- The citrusy brightness of orange infuses a traditional flan with a fresh twist that complements the sweet, agave-forward profile of Lobos.
- Salted Caramel Brownies:
- The combination of sweet and salty in a gooey brownie pairs exceptionally well with the smoothness of this release, especially if the tequila is served neat or on the rocks.
- Mango Sorbet:
- A light and fruity mango sorbet can provide a refreshing contrast to this Tequila, with the sweetness of both complementing each other.
Storing Your Bottle
To preserve Lobos 1707's integrity:
- Store: In a cool, dark place.
- Position: Upright to prevent cork deterioration.
- Seal: Tightly closed to retain its distinctive flavor.
Consume within a reasonable time after opening to enjoy its full expression.
Quick Note: Running a pub and liquor store provides me ample access to various spirits, in addition, I moonlight as an agave spirits distiller. I assess them using customer feedback, expert opinions and online research.
