Casamigos Blanco – Best for shots and cocktails

  • Nose: Vanilla, agave, mint
  • Palate: Smooth, creamy, agave, vanilla, mint
  • Alcohol content: 80 proof (40% ABV)
  • How to drink: Rocks
  • Similar to: Patron Silver, Don Julio Blanco

Personally, I am fond of Casamigos as I drink it every now and then when looking for a sweet, mellow and uncomplicated dram and still makes one of the best Blanco Tequilas in the market.

The nose is mostly vanilla, with a tad of agave and mint.

On the palate, Casamigos Blanco displays a smooth flavor, rich in vanilla and mint, with a creamy feel to it.

The finish is long and pleasantly warm, leaving trace of vanilla and mint behind.

Casamigos Blanco is sweet, smooth and easy to sip as it has no harshness and does not burn on the way down.

Best way of drinking is chilled and within the Casamigos range of whiskies this is the best for cocktails and shots.

If you want to consider further options I have compiled a list of good alternatives to Casamigos Blanco!

Casamigos Reposado – Top Rated Casamigos

casamigos-reposado-marcas-de-tequila
  • Nose: Vanilla, caramel, agave
  • Palate: Agave, vanilla, almond, caramel
  • Alcohol content: 80 proof (40% ABV)
  • How to drink: Rocks
  • Similar to: Patron Reposado, Don Julio Reposado

Casamigos Reposado is the product of aging its Blanco sibling for 8 months in barrels that were previously used to age bourbon whiskey.

Aging added some of the notes common to bourbon making it sweeter and even easier to drink.

The nose is quite sweet and rich in vanilla at first, followed by a note of roasted agave.

Casamigos Reposado has on oily and soft mouthfeel, is smoky upfront with a taste of honey, vanilla, baking spices, salted caramel and agave sweetness; its well balanced.

Casamigos Reposado is quite tasty and smooth with a bit of heat and spice on the tail that plays nicely.

Overall, Casamigos Reposado is a smooth easy sipper, more interesting than its unaged sibling but a bit warmer making it a good choice for bourbon aficionados.

In fact, this is the best Casamigos release and one of the Best Reposados in the market, with a flavor profile that drinkers of all levels will appreciate alike.

It drinks nicely neat or rocks but I would not use it as a mixer due to its price. There are several better options to make cocktails.

Casamigos Añejo – Best for Bourbon drinkers

casamigos-anejo-marcas-de-tequila
  • Nose: Soft caramel, vanilla
  • Palate: Vanilla, leathery sweetness, oak, smoke
  • Alcohol content: 80 proof (40% ABV)
  • How to drink: Rocks
  • Similar to: Patron Añejo, Don Julio Añejo

Casamigos Añejo is the product of aging Blanco for 14 months in the bourbon barrels.

The result is much darker release than Reposado, with a stronger oak spice and vanilla note.

The nose is quite sweet rich in vanilla and caramel but it does not reflect nearly as much on the palate.

Casamigos Añejo has a gentle mouthfeel, is rich in butterscotch and vanilla and shows a smooth spiced taste.

The finish is a bit pepperyslightly bitter, with a touch of smoke and pleasantly warm.

Overall, Casamigos Añejo makes a good sipper, as smooth as all Casamigos releases, with little burn although it lacks the precious agave flavors and the complexity that good añejo tequilas offer.

What separates the good tequilas in this category from the rest is that the first preserve the agave flavor despite the time spent in contact with the wood barrel.

Casamigos Añejo is an easy drinker to be enjoyed neat or rocks but I would not use it as a mixer. I stick to tequilas under $30 to make cocktails; beyond that is a waste of money.

Personally I find Casamigos Añejo to be good, but the weakest Casamigos Tequila and not good enough to break into the best Añejos.

Casamigos Mezcal

casamigos-mezcal
  • Nose: Agave, herbal, faint smoke
  • Palate: Vanilla, pepper, light smoke
  • Alcohol content: 80 proof (40% ABV)
  • How to drink: Rocks
  • Similar to: Dos Hombres Mezcal

Mezcal is also made from agave and is a heck of a dram and what I drink the most nowadays as I live in the Mexican state of Oaxaca where more than 90% percent of this spirit is produced.

Mezcal is smoky and more earthy than tequila, is like the grown-up version of Tequila.

Casamigos Mezcal is extremely smooth and too sweet barely resembling traditional mezcal flavor.

It offers pleasant vanilla and lemon peel flavor and very little smoke. Is not a bad sipper but not doesn’t have much to offer to Mezcal aficionados.

If you have never tasted Mezcal and are curious about it Casamigos Mezcal can be a good option as it does not have any harshness or off-putting notes.

If you are a seasoned mezcal drinker you are not gonna like it as it is toooo smoooooth and not flavorful.

Which is the best Casamigos? Which has the best flavor?

Reposado is the best Casamigos

  • Casamigos Reposado is the best tequila from this stable as it is sweet but not cloying, is complex and rich in flavors, pleasantly warm and is yet an easy sipper that you can drink either neat or rocks.
  • If you are a newbie to Tequila I suggest to start with Blanco. It is sweet and a very easy drinker that even those new to liquors will find to be nice.
  • Even though I find Casamigos Reposado better than Blanco I find myself drinking Blanco more often when looking for a super easy uncomplicated chilled dram.
  • I am not fond of Casamigos Añejo and consider it the weakest link among the tequila lineup. Is not bad, but it lost the precious agave flavors giving way to an oaky and peppery note. There are several better options at this price.

Which is the best Casamigos for sipping?

Reposado is the best sipper

Casamigos Reposado is the best to sip neat, as I mentioned this is a sweet, rich and complex tequila with pleasant warmth making a great sipping tequila.

Which is the best Casamigos for shots?

Blanco is the best shooter

Casamigos Blanco makes the best shooter but I suggest using a more affordable option. This is a nice sipping tequila and for shots I would prefer using one more warming as long as it is 100% agave.

Best Casamigos for Margaritas and cocktails?

Blanco is the best mixer

Casamigos Blanco is the best mixer, I would not use Reposado and much less añejo as they are even sweeter than Blanco and I am not fond of margaritas with an amber hue as they look weird.

Is Casamigos a good tequila?

Casamigos is not only a good tequila, it has become one of the world’s top tequila brands.

It is perfectly crafted and its three releases (blanco, reposado and añejo) are among the top in their respective categories.

I go as far as considering Blanco the best sipping tequila in the market nowadays; that’s how good I consider this brand to be.

Casamigos

Casamigos is a tequila brand founded by George Clooney and his compadre Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman in 2013. It was later purchased by the British spirits giant Diageo for up to $1 billion in 2017.

The name Casamigos comes from the Spanish words “casa” and “amigos,” house and friends, essentially “house of friends.”

The project was born in Cabo San Lucas, where Gerber and Clooney were building their vacation homes and sampling tequilas.

Gerner brought up the idea of crafting their own tequilas, and they eventually found a distillery in Jalisco, Mexico to produce a tequila that “tasted great and didn’t burn going down…” and gave “little hangover” the next day. The trio also wanted people to be able to drink it neat or rocks

After ordering “a thousand bottles per year” while sampling from the distillery over a span of two years, the distillery required them to get a business, eventually turning the private tequila house public.

Casamigos was at first produced by Productos Finos de Agave who also crafted for Clase Azul and Avion Tequila, but nowadays Casamigos is produced in is own distillery in Jalisco, Mexico.

This brand has gone beyond being George Clooney’s Tequila or another celebrity liquor to become a tequila powerhouse.
