Best Way to Drink Don Julio 70
"Don Julio 70 is a super smooth and sweet Tequila best enjoyed straight or chilled.", suggests Tequila expert Neil Coleman.
Being a Cristalino Tequila, it's special because it has the deep taste of Añejo Tequila but looks clear like a Blanco.
It gets its unique taste from being aged for 18 months and then filtered through charcoal removing hard edges.
Even though it's clear, it has a deep flavor thanks to the time it spent aging.
This is an easy sipping Tequila that satisfies drinkers of all levels.

On the Rocks

For those who fancy their Tequila chilled, use large ice cubes to prevent excessive dilution.
Don Julio's 70's taste could be masked by too much dilution, so opt for slow-melting ice cubes or even whiskey stones to get the desired chill without sacrificing flavor.
This Tequila is great when stored in the fridge and served cold.
While not every Tequila is meant to be kept chilled, Don Julio 70 really shines at a lower temperature.
Glassware Preference

While a Riedel glass remains an excellent choice for most high-end Tequilas, when it comes to Don Julio 70, it accentuates its clarity and vibrant aromas.
Its design enables the Tequila's nose to shine.
For a more relaxed experience, a classic whiskey rocks glass serves well, allowing the Tequila to breathe and express itself.
This is not a spirit I recommend sipping on a traditional Tequila shot glass as it is better suited for low-end Tequilas.
Tequila Shots
Don Julio 70 isn't your typical shoot-and-go Tequila.
It's meant for sipping and taking the time to truly appreciate its nuances.
Shooting Tequila is a swift experience, often reserved for more budget-friendly options.
With Don Julio 70, it's about savoring each moment and recognizing the craftsmanship in every sip.
It deserves more than a quick interaction – it's an experience best enjoyed slowly.
Tasting Notes

Don Julio 70 has a pleasant aroma of flowers, honey, blue agave, and vanilla.
It offers rich flavors of vanilla, oak, caramel, and a subtle hint of agave on the palate.
The finish is also smooth and pleasant, with lingering notes of vanilla, oak, and a touch of black pepper.
It doesn't have much heat making it an easy sipper.
Cocktails
Don Julio 70 is not a Tequila I recommend for making mixed drinks as it is too smooth and sweet and a little too pricey for such affairs.
I recommend drinking Don Julio Blanco in cocktails as it has a more robust flavor profile that elevates cocktails while being budget-friendly.
However, if you want to use Don Julio 70 on cocktails, here are some ideas for you to explore:
Margarita:
- 2 oz Tequila
- 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 oz agave syrup
- Shake with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.
Paloma:
- 2 oz Tequila
- 3 oz grapefruit soda
- Squeeze of lime
- Stir in a glass with ice, garnish with a grapefruit slice.
Food Pairings

The nuanced flavors of Don Julio 70 demand equally exquisite dishes to elevate the dining experience.
- Grilled Pineapple and Jalapeño Salsa: The sweetness and heat balance Don Julio's complexity.
- Lamb Tacos with Mint Guacamole: The rich flavors of the lamb and the freshness of mint provide a harmonious match.
- Churros with Chocolate Sauce: The sweetness of the churro and bitterness of the chocolate amplify Don Julio 70's undertones.
- Smoked Salmon Tostadas: The smokiness of the salmon paired with the clarity of the Tequila creates a memorable pairing.
Storing Guidelines
- Like all premium Tequilas, Don Julio 70 should be stored upright, away from direct sunlight, in a cool, dark place.
- Ensure the cap is tightly sealed to maintain its pristine character.
- Consume quickly when only a quarter of the bottle remains to savor its unparalleled freshness.

Quick Note: Running a pub and liquor store provides me ample access to various spirits, in addition, I moonlight as an agave spirits distiller. I assess them using customer feedback, expert opinions and online research.
