Best Way to Drink Patron Añejo
"To get the best out of Patron Añejo, I recommend sipping it neat. Its flavors, a delightful blend of oak, vanilla, and roasted agave, will feel right at home for those who love whiskey. Now, I've got to say, that adding water is a no-go for me. It just dilutes the flavor, making it pretty dull. But if you're like me and sometimes want your drink a bit chilled, go ahead and add some ice.", suggests Tequila expert Neil Coleman.
Just make sure to use big ice cubes to avoid watering it down too much.

On the Rocks
If you choose to enjoy it on the rocks, I recommend using large ice cubes to minimize dilution.
This is particularly important because it's bottled at a modest 80-proof, and additional dilution can significantly weaken its flavor.
Glassware Preference
While the traditional Tequila glass might suffice for other variants, Patron Añejo's aromatic depth deserves more.
A whiskey tumbler is recommended, as it doesn't trap the bouquet and allows the Tequila to breathe, enhancing the overall experience.
Tasting notes
Taking a moment to breathe in its aroma, I'm greeted with a mix of agave, dried fruits, and a distinct oakiness.
The first sip brings forth sweet notes of caramel, almond, and a touch of tobacco.
While I would've loved a stronger agave presence, there's no denying the pleasant warmth and lingering caramel on the finish.
It may not outshine the top Añejo Tequilas I've tried, but it's certainly up there and very much enjoyable.
Tequila Shots
Taking shots of Patron Añejo might seem like a waste of its nuanced character.
If it's the rush of a shot you're after, opt for a younger variant of Patron.
Yet, if you're committed to Añejo shots, sip them slowly to truly appreciate the layers of flavors.
Cocktails
Considering its price bracket, it might seem extravagant to blend Patrón Añejo in a cocktail.
Consider cheap Añejo Tequila such as El Mayor or 1800 that can deliver good cocktails on a dime.
However, if you decide to indulge, it promises a rich base for any mix.

Food Pairings
Patrón Añejo, with its rich, oaky, and vanilla notes, complements a variety of dishes. Here are five food pairings that would enhance the flavors of Patrón Añejo:
- Grilled Ribeye Steak: The robust, meaty flavors of a grilled ribeye, especially with a hint of char, pair beautifully with the oaky and vanilla notes of Patrón Añejo. The tequila can bring out the richness of the steak.
- Roasted Pork Loin with Spices: A succulent roasted pork loin, seasoned with herbs and spices, complements the smooth, aged character of Patrón Añejo. The sweet and spicy notes in the pork echo the tequila's complex profile.
- Dark Chocolate Desserts: Rich, dark chocolate, whether in a mousse or a cake, pairs wonderfully with Patrón Añejo. The tequila's vanilla and oak flavors enhance the depth of the chocolate, creating a luxurious combination.
- Grilled Lobster Tails: The subtle sweetness and delicate texture of grilled lobster tails harmonize with the smoothness of Patrón Añejo. A drizzle of melted butter on the lobster can further complement the tequila's rich profile.
- Mature Cheeses: A board of aged cheeses, like cheddar, gouda, or manchego, can be an excellent match for Patrón Añejo. The complexity of the cheese pairs well with the tequila's nuanced flavors and woody notes.
These pairings capitalize on the rich, complex flavors of Patrón Añejo, making it a versatile choice for pairing with a variety of culinary delights.
Storing Guidelines
As with all premium spirits, ensure Patron Añejo is stored in a cool, dark place.
Keep the bottle upright and tightly sealed to preserve its taste.
Once opened and when content reduces to 25%, aim to consume it promptly as it starts developing funky flavors.
Quick Note: Running a pub and liquor store provides me ample access to various spirits, in addition, I moonlight as an agave spirits distiller. I assess them using customer feedback, expert opinions and online research.
