Best Way to Drink Casamigos Reposado

"Casamigos Reposado is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, letting its smooth taste shine. This is a sweet and smooth Tequila with no harsh tasting notes and very little burn making it an ideal choice for sipping. It has a slightly warm profile that bourbon enthusiasts will enjoy." suggests Tequila expert Neil Coleman.

As the top-rated Casamigos release and one of the best Reposados on the market, it has a well-balanced flavor profile that can be appreciated by drinkers of all levels.

On the Rocks

Sipping Casamigos Reposado on the rocks is a good choice, but it's recommended to use large ice cubes to minimize dilution. Since it's bottled at a modest 80-proof, excessive dilution can weaken its flavor profile significantly.

Instead of diluting with ice, you can use whiskey stones, frozen grapes, or simply pre-chill the glass in the freezer to keep your tequila cool while sipping.

Glassware

A standard Tequila glass or a whiskey tumbler will enhance the overall tasting journey.

You can go as far as buying a Glencairn glass which is typically used to drink fine Scotch, but there is no need to spend top dollar.

Flavor Profile

At first, the nose provides a vanilla note and a hint of roasted agave.

The texture is soft and oily, with an upfront smokiness and a combination of honey, vanilla, baking spices, salted caramel, and agave sweetness that are well-balanced.

Overall, Casamigos Reposado is a rich and smooth Tequila with very little heat and spice that lingers pleasantly.

Cocktails

Casamigos Reposado, while excellent for sipping due to its sweet and easy-drinking notes, isn't my top pick for cocktails.

Given its sweetness and higher price, it may not be ideal for drinks like Old Fashioneds, Tequila Sours, and especially not Margaritas.

Its distinct flavors can get overshadowed in mixed drinks.

For cocktails, I'd suggest opting for a more affordable Reposado.

They can deliver a solid taste in your drink at half the cost, letting Casamigos Reposado shine where it's best: on its own.

However, here are some ideas for you to consider if you want to move forward:

Margarita:

Ingredients:

  • Tequila
  • Triple Sec or orange liqueur
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Agave nectar (adjust to taste)
  • Ice
  • Lime wheel or wedge for garnish
  • Salt or Tajín for rimming (optional)

Instructions:

  • Rim a rocks glass with salt or Tajín (optional).
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine Reposado, Triple Sec, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar.
  • Add ice and shake until well-chilled.
  • Strain the mixture into the prepared rocks glass filled with ice.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge.

Old Fashioned:

Ingredients:

  • Tequila
  • Sugar cube (or simple syrup)
  • Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel or twist for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions:

  • Place the sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass (or use simple syrup for convenience).
  • Add Angostura bitters and a splash of water, then muddle until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Fill the glass with ice.
  • Pour Reposado Tequila over the ice and stir.
  • Garnish with a twist of orange peel.

Pineapple Paloma:

Ingredients:

  • Tequila
  • Fresh pineapple juice
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Grapefruit soda (e.g., Jarritos or Squirt)
  • Pineapple wedge and grapefruit slice for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions:

  • Fill a highball glass with ice.
  • Add Tequila, fresh pineapple juice, and fresh lime juice.
  • Top with grapefruit soda and gently stir.
  • Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a grapefruit slice.

These are the cocktail ideas for Casamigos Reposado Tequila without numbering. Enjoy responsibly!

Food Pairings

Casamigos Reposado pairs well with a wide variety of foods.

Here are some ideas for you to consider:

  1. Carne Asada Tacos: Grilled carne asada tacos with tender marinated beef, fresh salsa, and a squeeze of lime are a classic pairing with Casamigos. The tequila's caramel and vanilla notes complement the savory and slightly smoky flavors of the meat.
  2. Grilled Pineapple and Shrimp Skewers: Skewers featuring grilled pineapple and shrimp, brushed with a honey-lime glaze, create a sweet and savory pairing with this Reposado. The tequila's subtle caramel sweetness enhances the tropical and citrusy elements of the dish.
  3. Quesadillas with Oaxacan Cheese: Quesadillas made with Oaxacan cheese, known for its creaminess, paired with a fresh salsa or guacamole, offer a rich and indulgent pairing.
  4. Chicken Mole: Chicken mole, a rich and flavorful Mexican sauce made with chocolate and spices, pairs well with this Reposado. The tequila's caramel and oak undertones complement the complexity of the mole sauce.
  5. Caramel Flan: Caramel flan, a creamy custard dessert with a caramelized sugar topping, creates a harmonious pairing with Casamigos. The tequila's caramel notes enhance the dessert's sweetness while providing a complementary flavor profile.

Storing the Bottle

Tequila's flavors remain intact with proper storage:

  • Store in a cool, dark place to avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
  • This prevents the cork from drying and the tequila from adopting a woody taste.
  • Ensure it's well-sealed to maintain its freshness.
  • When your Casamigos Reposado bottle starts to run low, try to finish it reasonably soon.
  • A near-empty bottle can lead to oxidation, which may slightly alter its taste.

Relishing Casamigos Reposado is about appreciating its craftsmanship and enjoying the moments it accompanies.

Whether it's a toast among friends or a quiet evening sip, it promises a delightful experience.

Quick Note: Running a pub and liquor store provides me ample access to various spirits, in addition, I moonlight as an agave spirits distiller. I assess them using customer feedback, expert opinions and online research.
