Best Way to Drink Lunazul Tequila

"Lunazul Tequila shines brightest in cocktails, where its warm, peppery notes elevate the drink's taste. While it may lack the smoothness of premium sipping Tequilas, its robust flavor and affordability make it a great pick for delicious cocktails.", suggests Tequila expert Neil Coleman.

Although not on par with elite Blanco Tequilas, Lunazul surpasses alternatives like Jimador Blanco or Hornitos Plata in quality.

For cocktail purposes, my budget stays under $30, prioritizing Tequilas that add a hint of warmth for more dynamic and tasty drinks.

Lunazul meets these criteria perfectly, offering value without a hefty price tag.

On the Rocks

Incorporating ice can reduce the burn and increase the smoothness of the spirit, but it still doesn't transform it into an ideal sipping Tequila.

If you choose to use ice, large cubes are recommended to avoid dilution, as tequila typically loses its distinct flavor when watered down.

Choosing the Right Glass

For a Tequila like Lunazul, basic glassware is adequate.

A shot glass works well for neat servings, or you can use a whiskey rocks glass if you prefer it on the rocks.

The latter is especially suitable for accommodating large ice chunks.

In Shots

Lunazul, being slightly fiery, might not be the best choice for Tequila shooters, but if you don't mind a bit of a burn, it can get the job done.

However, there are smoother Tequila shooters available for those who prefer a more gentle shooting experience.

Tasting Notes

Lunazul's nose features roasted agave notes, enhanced by light undertones of black pepper, vanilla, and a hint of alcohol.

Upon the first taste, a sweet agave flavor leads, followed by nuances of black pepper, cinnamon, mint, and a subtle citrus background.

Its finish is extended, providing a mild warmth that isn't overwhelming, with a faint bitterness and lingering notes of black pepper.

Food Pairings

ceviche

Lunazul is a cheap Blanco Tequila that pairs well with casual foods.

Here are five food pairings that can complement its flavors:

Fish Tacos:

  • The light, fresh flavors of fish tacos, especially with a squeeze of lime, pair wonderfully with the crisp and slightly peppery notes of Blanco tequila.

Guacamole and Chips:

  • The creamy, rich texture of guacamole balances the sharpness of the Tequila, while the saltiness of the chips enhances its flavor profile.

Grilled Chicken Skewers:

  • Chicken marinated in citrus and spices can bring out the agave and herbal notes in the Tequila, making for a harmonious combination.

Ceviche:

  • The citrusy and fresh flavors of ceviche, typically made with lime juice, cilantro, and fresh fish or shrimp, complement the light and zesty characteristics of Blanco Tequila.

Spicy Street Corn (Elote):

  • The spiciness and charred flavor of elote, a popular Mexican street food, can accentuate Lunazul's peppery undertones.

These pairings are not only delicious but also enhance the casual and relaxed experience that accompanies enjoying a good Tequila.

Storage Tips

  • Storage: Keep the bottle standing in a cool, dimly lit area to maintain its taste and clear appearance.
  • Sealing: Ensure the bottle is securely closed after each use.
  • Consumption: Although Lunazul doesn't go bad, it's recommended to enjoy it relatively soon for optimal flavor.

Quick Note: Running a pub and liquor store provides me ample access to various spirits, in addition, I moonlight as an agave spirits distiller. I assess them using customer feedback, expert opinions and online research.
