Blanco Tequila, also known as Silver, is an unaged spirit that is bottled immediately after distillation, lacking the bourbon-like characteristics that come with aging.
Good Blancos showcase the delightful flavor of agave, offering a pleasant combination of sweet and vegetal notes.
They often exhibit hints of orange, asparagus, black pepper, and anise.
Reposado Tequila – Light on whiskey notes
Reposado Tequila undergoes aging, typically in bourbon barrels, for a period of two to twelve months.
This aging process imparts a beautiful amber color to the Tequila and adds subtle hints of vanilla, oak, and caramel.
While there may be a faint influence of whiskey, it is so delicate that it is barely perceptible.
Añejo Tequila – Has Whiskey Notes
Añejo Tequila undergoes an aging period of one to three years, primarily in bourbon barrels.
This extended aging imparts a darker color to the Tequila and contributes to a taste reminiscent of whiskey.
The finest Añejo Tequilas maintain the prominent flavor of agave while showcasing stronger notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel, resulting in a taste that combines the characteristics of Tequila and Bourbon.

Extra Añejo Tequila represents the pinnacle of luxury in the Tequila world, with a minimum aging period of three years or more.
Some exceptional releases, such as the Patron Extra Añejo 10 Años, undergo an aging process of 10 years, resulting in a flavor profile reminiscent of bourbon while still retaining the distinct essence of agave.
Personally, I rarely drink Extra Añejo Tequilas as they often exhibit flavors similar to bourbon, leading me to prefer the more affordable option of bourbon itself.
For approximately $50, you can acquire a reliable choice like the Eagle Rare 10 Year, while the Patron 10 Años is priced at around $350.
Cristalino Tequila – Barely tastes like whiskey
Cristalino Tequila is a unique category that includes Reposados, Añejos, and Extra Añejos that have undergone a filtration process using activated charcoal.
