Don Julio Añejo
Don Julio Añejo offers a bourbon-like nose with hints of vanilla, oak, caramel, and a touch of orange.
The palate starts warm with persistent cinnamon notes, complemented by vanilla, oak, sweet butterscotch, and smoky nuances.
The long finish features oak and cinnamon
“An excellent sipping Tequila for bourbon drinkers with similar notes to Casamigos but more nuanced and sophisticated.”, mentions Tequila expert Neil Coleman.
G4 Añejo
G4 Tequila stands out for its commitment to quality.
Its nose offers hints of vanilla, caramel, and orange peel.
The palate is velvety and warm, with rich agave, vanilla, and black pepper flavors.
Oak complements rather than overpowers the agave, resulting in a long, warm finish with cinnamon and agave notes.
G4 is known for its exceptional purity and flavor, earning its place among the best Tequila brands.
Siete Leguas Añejo
The nose brings bourbon-like notes of butterscotch and vanilla complemented by a hint of roasted agave.
Its buttery and smooth palate offers flavors of blue agave, caramel, vanilla, baking spices, and wood.
The finish is long, warm, and sweet with oak spice, butterscotch, and vanilla flavors.
Siete Leguas Añejo offers a full-bodied and agave-forward taste that will please both Tequila and bourbon drinkers.
With a distinct blue agave flavor and notes of butterscotch and wood, it’s a great option for those looking to explore agave spirits.
El Mayor Añejo
The nose delivers bourbon-like notes of light caramel followed by oak, vanilla, and a hint of raisins.
On the palate, there’s a fruity note upfront followed by vanilla, caramel, and a subtle toasted oak flavor.
The finish has a decent length and offers a pleasantly peppery kick with no harsh alcohol flavor or burn, making it an enjoyable and easy drinker at an unbeatable price.
While El Mayor Añejo may not have the same level of recognition as some of the top Tequila brands like Don Julio, Casamigos, Patron, Tesoro, or Fortaleza, it is a hidden gem that makes for a great sipping Tequila.
For the price, you can use it to make Añejo Margaritas or Tequila Old Fashioned with no remorse!
Herradura Añejo
Herradura Añejo boasts a deep amber color after 25 months of aging, well beyond the 12-month requirement for quality Añejo Tequila.
The nose presents vanilla, oak, caramel, and a hint of agave.
It delivers a satisfying mouthfeel with a warming oak and barrel spice taste, along with notes of vanilla, ripe fruit, and agave.
The finish is long with warmth and oak notes, making it a great option for those who appreciate robust oak flavors.
Riazul Añejo
Riazul Añejo features a rich vanilla nose with hints of caramel and cinnamon.
It has a silky texture on the palate, offering flavors of cinnamon, vanilla, caramel, and subtle charred oak.
The finish is long-lasting with minimal heat and a touch of bitter oak spice.
This Tequila is smooth, sweet, and full-bodied, making it a crowd-pleaser, a it tastes as dessert on glass.
Espolon Añejo
Espolon Añejo offers subtle oak, agave, butterscotch, and vanilla notes on the nose.
On the palate, it balances agave sweetness with grassy undertones and oak from bourbon barrels.
The finish lingers with oak, caramel, gentle spice, and pleasant warmth.
It’s versatile for cocktails or sipping, appealing to both Tequila and bourbon enthusiasts.
Kirkland Añejo – Cheapest Alternative
If you’re budget-conscious, I recommend an affordable Añejo Tequila option that provides excellent value.
The nose offers caramel, vanilla, oak, and subtle agave notes.
On the palate, it’s caramel-forward with oak, vanilla, agave, and a hint of black pepper.
The finish is sweet and long, with minimal warmth and an agave and butterscotch aftertaste.
Kirkland’s Añejo resembles a young bourbon with a Tequila finish, possibly indicating added sweetness.
Despite this, it offers great value for newcomers to Tequila and is exclusively available at Costco.
Worth considering on your next warehouse store visit.
Casamigos Añejo
Casamigos Añejo, aged for 14 months in bourbon barrels, boasts a rich amber hue and a sweet aroma of vanilla and caramel.
However, the palate isn’t as sweet, providing a smooth butterscotch and vanilla experience with a subtle spiced undertone.
The finish adds a touch of pepper, smoke, and warmth.
While a good sipping Tequila with Casamigos’ trademark smoothness, it lacks the agave essence and complexity found in top Añejo Tequilas.
The best Añejos preserve agave character despite aging, making Casamigos Añejo enjoyable but not the brand’s finest; the Reposado remains my favorite Casamigos.
