In this post, I share with you how I drink Avion Silver Tequila, an unaged or Blanco Tequila bottled after distillation.

Best Way to Drink Avion Tequila

"Avion Silver can be sipped neat, though it becomes more enjoyable when served over ice, as the chill mellows its peppery undertones. While it offers a smooth and sweet profile, it doesn't boast the intricate flavors found in some of the top Tequila Blancos.", suggests Tequila expert Neil Coleman.

Nonetheless, it's a suitable choice for those seeking an uncomplicated Tequila to drink on the rocks.

On the Rocks

When drinking Avion on the rocks I advise using large cubes avoiding excessive dilution.

This Tequila feels a bit thin and lacking in body, so further dilution kills the flavor turning it into a dull sip.

Taking Shots

Avion makes a decent shooter as it barely burns on the way down.

Glass Selection

Avion Tequila is best served in a whiskey tumbler when adding ice or in a traditional shot glass for a straight-up experience.

Flavor Notes

Avion Silver presents a subtle agave aroma with a hint of orange peel, and a swiftly fading alcohol presence on the nose.

On the palate, Avion disappoints with its thin body, lacking flavor and depth.

The primary taste is alcohol, lacking complexity, featuring artificial fruity notes and a subtle hint of vanilla.

The finish is characterized by noticeable artificial sweetness, accompanied by a hint of black pepper, but without significant warmth.

Cocktails

Avion is not a top choice for making cocktails as it feels weak lacking the bold notes to make good cocktails.

Additionally, it comes at a price where there are several Tequilas that can deliver a better experience at a discount.

Yet, if you are determined to make cocktails with Avion here are some ideas to consider:

Citrus Blast:

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz agave nectar
  • Splash of soda water

Instructions: Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake well, and strain into a glass. Top with soda and garnish with a lemon twist.

Pineapple Fusion:

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 3 chunks of fresh pineapple
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup

Instructions: Muddle pineapple in a shaker, add the remaining ingredients and shake well. Strain into a glass over ice and garnish with a pineapple wedge.

Herbal Delight:

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • Sprig of rosemary

Instructions: Muddle rosemary in a shaker, add the rest of the ingredients with ice, and shake. Strain and garnish with a rosemary sprig.

Food Pairings

Pairing Avion Silver Tequila with complementary foods can enhance the tasting experience.

Here are five food pairings to consider:

  1. Ceviche: The bright and citrusy flavors of ceviche, typically made with fresh seafood, lime juice, cilantro, and chili peppers, complement the clean and crisp profile of this Tequila. The acidity of the ceviche balances the tequila's agave sweetness.
  2. Tacos al Pastor: Tacos al Pastor, featuring marinated and spit-roasted pork, pineapple, and onions, pair wonderfully with Avion. The sweet and savory notes of the dish contrast nicely with the tequila's earthy and peppery tones.
  3. Guacamole and Chips: The creamy richness of guacamole, combined with the saltiness of tortilla chips, provides a delightful contrast to the bright and herbaceous notes in this Tequila. It's a classic and refreshing pairing.
  4. Grilled Shrimp Skewers: Grilled shrimp skewers with a citrus marinade or a light chili-lime glaze complement the tequila's citrusy and herbal undertones. The charred flavors from the grill also add depth to the pairing.
  5. Mango Salsa: A vibrant mango salsa with diced mangoes, red onion, cilantro, and lime juice offers a burst of tropical sweetness and acidity that harmonizes with Tequila's agave flavors. This pairing is both refreshing and exotic.

Remember to enjoy tequila responsibly and in moderation, and savor the flavors of both the tequila and the accompanying foods for a well-rounded tasting experience.

Storing Your Bottle

To maintain Avion Silver's integrity:

  • Store: In a cool, dark spot away from direct light.
  • Position: Upright to keep the cork dry.
  • Seal: Ensure a tight seal to keep air out.

And remember, once you're nearing the end, finish the bottle soon as it might develop awkward flavors.

Quick Note: Running a pub and liquor store provides me ample access to various spirits, in addition, I moonlight as an agave spirits distiller. I assess them using customer feedback, expert opinions and online research.
