Best Way to Drink Corralejo Reposado
“If you’re looking to spice up your cocktails, Corralejo Tequila is a great pick. While it might not be the smoothest Reposado on the shelf, its smoky undertone and sharp bite can add a captivating twist to your Tequila cocktail.”, states Tequila expert Neil Coleman.
However, if sipping neat is your style, brace yourself for its bold character.
Unless you have a preference for robust spirits, you might find Corralejo a tad challenging to enjoy straight.
But as a cocktail component? It’s a surefire way to elevate your Margaritas.

On the Rocks

Corralejo becomes more enjoyable when adding ice but is still far from being a good sipping option.
If you lean towards this style, consider using large ice cubes to reduce rapid dilution.
A chilled Riedel tequila glass, stashed in the freezer, can also elevate the experience.
Tequila Shots
Corralejo isn’t my favorite Reposado for shots given its slightly sharp bite on the way down.
While its pricing is tempting, I believe there are other affordable Reposados out there that offer a smoother experience for the same buck.
If you’re after value and a gentler sip, there are alternative options worth exploring.
Glassware Selection

When it comes to enjoying Corralejo, there’s no need for fancy glassware.
A traditional Tequila shots glass (caballito) does the job perfectly.
It’s a Tequila that appreciates simplicity and authenticity over pretension.
Tasting Notes
The nose is rich in roasted agave scent with a hint of alcohol and smokiness.
Its flavor is bold and warming, combining black pepper, agave, oak, caramel, and a subtle smoky undertone.
The finish is long and slightly hot, leaving a pleasant taste of caramel and oak spice.
Making Cocktails
Corralejo’s warm nature and affordable price make it an ideal cocktail to craft cocktails:
Classic Margarita:
- 2 oz Tequila
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.75 oz triple sec
- Salt for rimming
Instructions: Rim the glass with salt. Combine Tequila, lime juice, and triple sec in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into the prepared glass.
Paloma:
- 2 oz Tequila
- 3 oz fresh grapefruit juice
- 1 oz lime juice
- Soda water
Instructions: Mix Tequila, grapefruit juice, and lime juice in a glass. Top with soda water.
Food Pairings

Corralejo isn’t the Tequila you’d reach for when pairing with upscale dishes.
Instead, it shines best with casual favorites like nachos, tacos, and other Mexican staples.
Its laid-back character even makes it a fitting companion for non-traditional pairings like pizza or burgers.
Simply put, Corralejo is your go-to for relaxed, easy-going occasions.
Storing Your Tequila Bottle
To preserve its character:
- Keep the bottle upright preventing the liquid from entering in contact with the stopper.
- Store in a cool, dark place.
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
Tequila, unlike wine, doesn’t evolve once bottled.
Store it well to maintain its original taste.
