Best Way to Drink Jose Cuervo Gold
“Jose Cuervo Gold is a suitable choice for crafting cocktails, given its affordability and bold flavor. Its taste, which can be described as harsh and somewhat peculiar, may not be ideal for sipping. This characteristic, along with the tendency to contribute to hangovers if consumed excessively, makes it less desirable for enjoying neat. Yet, this very boldness in flavor renders it quite effective in cocktail recipes, where its strong profile can stand out, making it a practical option for those seeking an economical Tequila for mixed drinks.”, mentions Tequila expert Neil Coleman.
Choice of Glassware

If you’re inclined to add ice, go with a rocks glass.
For those leaning towards shots, the traditional caballito (Tequila shot glass) does the trick.
Tasting Notes
The scent recalls my university years, with a strong alcoholic aroma akin to nail polish remover, softened by hints of oak and caramel.
The initial sweet taste of caramel is quickly overshadowed by a sharp alcohol bite and peppery undertones.
As the taste evolves, oak becomes more pronounced, ending in a candy-like aftertaste with a brief, warm, and spicy finish.
In Shots
While it’s not a refined sipping Tequila, Jose Cuervo Gold can be enjoyed in shots, especially when chilled.
Its robust flavor profile ensures it doesn’t get lost when consumed quickly.
Just be aware that it produces hangovers when consumed excessively.
In Cocktails
This tequila’s boldness makes it a fitting choice for many classic Tequila-based cocktails.
Gold Margarita:
- 2 oz Tequila
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.75 oz triple sec
Shake the ingredients with ice and strain into a salt-rimmed glass.
Golden Sunrise:
- 2 oz Tequila
- 4 oz orange juice
- 0.5 oz grenadine
Mix Tequila and orange juice in a glass with ice.
Pour the grenadine down the side so that it settles at the bottom, creating a sunrise effect.
Pairing with Food

This Tequila isn’t one I’d pair with gourmet meals.
Instead, it’s the kind of drink you’d reach for during tailgating. It pairs well with casual favorites like nachos, tacos, or any comfort food of your choice.
Storing the Bottle
To maintain its character:
- Keep it away from direct sunlight in a cool place.
- Always store the bottle upright.
- Ensure the cap is tightly sealed to maintain its flavor profile.
